I absolutely love this book! The story of Thomas realistically illustrates what kind of bullying happens in school. My professional goal is to be proactive in bullying prevention because it's much more effective than being reactive when bullying occurs. I am using this story for my 3rd grade lesson plan in bullying prevention. Not does it cover the theme of social injustice, but it will address the standard of character descriptions and motivations.
As a therapist that does many groups with youth, I'm always looking for books that can hone in on certain topics and bullying is a big one. This book has great graphics and the story is phenomenal. I've primarily used this book with tweens and it always gets a great response from the group members and really gets the discussion going.
Great book! I have really loved reading this to some of my classrooms (I am a school counselor). It is also easy to build a guidance lesson around, use in classroom meetings or just to open discussion. I highly recommend it.
This was such an awesome book for my 7 & 9 year old. It applies to real life situations. Then explains how to work through the tough moments. Even better - it talks about each character. It’s not just “don’t listen to the bully’s mean wordsâ€, it’s more, and goes a bit deeper.
I used this book in classroom guidance, small group, and individuals. I love that it provides a male perspective. It also does a great job of showing how bullying affects the target and how the target can take their power back. I love all of their books.
Kids bullied at school really relate to Thomas, the main character. It also suggest some creative ways to increase self esteem.
Great book to showcase bullying, and loved that it had discussion questions at the end.
