Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., CAAB is an Ethologist and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist who has consulted with cat and dog lovers for over twenty years. She combines a thorough understanding of the science of behavior with years of practical, applied experience. If I could give this negative stars, I would. I sincerely regret wasting $3.83 on this booklet. It's ridiculous to suggest that feeding a stressed out dog a ton of treats will ever help him. If you can't get to the actual cause of the fear, you cannot truly fix it.I cannot imagine having to feed my dog piles of treats to try momentarily distracting him from fear for the foreseeable future.

This book was instrumental, among many other strategies I had to employ, when I adopted a one-year-old puppy mill dog.This book helped me to help her deal with her fears, and learn to trust me. The fact it is only 30 pages or so means I was able to use the strategies and techniques immediately, without reading a 300 page novel about it first. I now have a wonderful little companion and I still use these techniques from time to time, as being a fear-based dog, she develops new fears all the time. We always revert back to the main strategy listed in the book. I have also purchased the separation anxiety book and the leash reactivity book, because my little one is just a bundle of behavioral issues. .

This book is super helpful.This book is about helping your dog conquer their fears, as in changing their emotions to things they find scary. Rather than what I personally see a lot of people do- changing the behavior. Which i have seen first hand, is a bad idea to change the behavior rather than the emotion. Such as, if a dog finds something scary, and they were taught to not growl, bare teeth, bark, etc. And just to lay there.. What if the scary thing goes way over the thresh hold, and that dog feels no escape and bites- because the emotions were still there. And even if that dog never lashes out in aggression, it still is living in fear- and that is not a fun life..Its a step by step, easy read, suggests you write down a few things which is great because than you actually remember and more than likely will follow through with the book.My dog is fear aggressive to ANY new person. She has bit someone (when i wasn't there, the family watched her). She is a super sweet dog to those whom she knows very well. So this book is very helpful in that it really covers most of the things i have questions about and need help with.. I think my dog will take a full year or more before she is fully accepting of strangers.I actually have gotten a private dog trainer and spent $200.00 for her to come to my house, observe my dog and write a report. The report basically said most of the things that this book said! So save $200.00 and purchase this book!I love this book!

quick and easy read. very helpful for the owner of rescue dogs that are fearful and reactive and acting out what we see as aggressively. This book helps understand our dogs and how to work together to live in peace and enjoy some fun times rather than worried and scardy dog

I wish I had read this many years ago when I first started to take dogs with major issues. But,also learned we were doing a lot correctly…now getting some new methods for a fearful dog.Well written, clear on instructions and what to do and not do and why.Hope she writes another one, for dogs that are fearful of everything and every person.

So, my dog Duke is a rescue, who I rescued and then adopted through proper channels. It wasn't until months after that adoption did we realize he had a problem with babies and toddlers.I took him to a private behavioral session which put me on the right track to his reform, but when I got pregnant, I ordered this book. This book was saying the exact same thing as what the private session had been saying but in so much more detail. The detail helps you fully understand why and how the techniques work. I recommend this book even if you are having classes to support you. I also recommend how to be the leader of your dog and have him love you for it (same author, red book) book as it teaches your dog to look to you for guidance in tricky situations.The books do work and help you take back control of your household but it's hard work. If you're not willing to put in work this book will not work for you. Pregnancy was not the best time to start training and I feel I could have got better results starting earlier.We are still working with Duke but the desensitization is working and slowly but surely he's becoming more comfortable. That initial fear is gone. I am under no illusion that these two will never be left alone but I wouldn't leave any dog and baby alone. I don't see Duke becoming best friends with my son right now but he's no longer fearful which lowers any risk of him lashing out.This book also helps you see from a dogs perspective and you empathize with your dog as opposed to being irritated. It's a great book.

I was hoping for more. The information is valid but really concentrates on the fear of strangers and walking your dog. You need to identify the "trigger" and then use the information. My dog is afraid of everything. Just gets "spooked" all the time. Even when outside by herself. This book assumes the dog is aggressive and lunging, my dog hides and we cannot find her. It would be simple if all I had to do was put her on a leash and go for a walk. We do that all the time and she is fine.

This book is well written by Patrica B McConnell, PhD I am familiar with her contributions to dog training. Dr McConnell is an excellent applied animal behaviorist. Her books are easy to understand. I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and find Dr. McConnell's books to be an excellent reference both for professionals and the average dog owner. Unlike some people in the field Dr. McConnell has no problem referring her readers to books by other animal behaviorists or dog trainers.I highly recommend this book for anyone who may have to deal with the fearful or fear aggressive dog.

I have a 6 year old daughter who loves to draw and this a great book with intro techniques on how to draw basic animal body features (starting with the circles and ovals and building on that etc.). She loved that they happen to be adorable animals as well.

This book is not for a beginner. There's not enough information on how to get depth of field at a beginner level. Would be a great book for someone who already has some skill in drawing whether that's a a four-year-old or a 44 year-old

Perfect! Bought it for my daughter's 6th birthday and she loves it! The characters are darling! Very age appropriate.

This is a fantastic drawing book for kids. There are 30 drawing lessons of a variety of animals like an owl, horse, duck, hippo, tiger, lion etc. The drawings are so cute!! This book is all visual, which is great. A lot of kids drawing books I looked at were geared really young and show more of a flat, “mimic” style of drawing. What I love about this book is it actually teaches you to understand the structure and volume of what you’re drawing by first blocking in the large shapes and then refining. My 10 year old daughter loves it and her drawings have improved a lot since she got it! She calls it her “real” drawing book. :) Thank you for making such a great art book for kids!

It's a shame that the publishing quality of "First Rate Publishers" doesn't match the quality of the content of this book. A publishing mark in the back of the book matches the date I ordered - they must have slapped it together at that point. There are no page numbers, tiny font, no indentation at the beginning of paragraphs... really disappointing. Please know this rating is a reflection of the publishing, not the title nor the author. Be sure to get a different edition. "First Rate Publishers" must be a cheap knock off publisher owned by Amazon or something, because I bought several "new" books from Amazon Prime, and they were all the same flimsy paper, tiny dim font, numberless pages... very underimpressive Amazon.

Excellent introduction to the history of British literature, for both children and adults. From the early tellers of tales in ancient times to the poetry of the early 20th century -- the author delves into the beauty and power of the written word -- heartfelt and elegantly written -- I highly recommend!

English Literature for Boys and Girls is a five-star book; it is one of the best books I have found for introducing English Literature to children from the age of 9 or 10 through middle school. However, this large print edition is poorly edited. What a shame. The book deserves better.H. E. Marshall's vocabulary and sentence structure are complex, and reading this book will stretch the younger student's reading comprehension, but he or she will also be enticed into a love of English literature. This book provides the background a student should have before beginning to study the Great Books written in English. From ancient Irish legends to Chaucer to Alexander Pope to Alfred Lord Tennyson, all the greatest works of English literature are introduced here. In most chapters the text includes both the story of a particular work of literature and excerpts from the actual work itself, including some in archaic English. This gives rise to great discussions on the transformation of the English language over time.I own a copy of the text as originally published, and I purchased this large print edition to help my 9yo students to read the text without eye strain. However, this large print edition published by BiblioBazaar is in dire need of an editor. Many whole lines from the original are skipped in this edition, leaving the students scratching their heads in wonder at the already challenging-to-comprehend readings. Sometimes a footnote will be inserted in the text with the next paragraph printed as part of the footnote extending to the bottom of the next page, skipping the entire paragraph in the primary text. This seems to be a quick-published edition that was never edited properly. The shoddy editing is a shame since this book deserves to be in the hands of every young English-speaking student.I cannot recommend this book highly enough, but I strongly suggest purchasing a different edition. There is no excuse for the gross errors in this large-print edition.

Wonderful, gentle introduction to British literature with lots of historical and biographical nuggets. Unfortunately no table of contents, but it is chronological so it is not hard to find what you are looking for.

Great introduction to the Literature of the British Isles for anyone of any age. Very well done!

Missing chapter 3. Poor quality book.

I absolutely love this book!! The stories are wonderful and very well written!

I read my grandfather's 11 plus exam and realised I couldn't have answered many of its questions when I was 15. Nowadays, this book would be read by adults to help them educate their children but really an intelligent 10 or 12 year old should be able to cope with this. As they probably aren't, I recommend this for any parent wishing to give their child a solid foundation in English Lit. She was brilliant. Homeschooling!!!

In THE BREAST CANCER PREVENTION DIET, Dr. Bob Arnot considers breast cancer in terms of its causes, its pathology, its treatment, and its relation to other cancers. Dr. Arnot tries hard to keep the medical jargon down to a minimum but his opening discussion of estrogen receptors might be a bit too deep for those with little medical backgound. Nevertheless, his analyses of the underlying causes represent what was then (1998) cutting edge technology and still holds relevance today. His position that certain foods may actually reduce the incidence of breast cancer or even eliminate it is far less controversial than some of his detractors hold who insist that obesity rather than diet is the determining factor. For Dr. Arnot, diet is supremely important not only for the standard nutrients like vitamins and minerals, but also for the less well-known presence (or absence) or more exotic elements like Omega-3 fish oils, antioxidants, and genistein. Arnot connects a number of loose nutritional threads like fiber, body fat, insulin levels and soy and flax products that synergistically interact to reduce if not eliminate breast cancer. Arnot is fond of charts as he uses them judiciously to list and rank various subcategories of anti-breast cancer components. For example, for those who wish to increase their intake of Omega-3 fatty acids but do not wish to do so by tablet supplementation, his chart on page 88 identifies from highest to lowest those fish foods that are particularly rich in that oil. He later addresses an often overlooked factor in cancer growth: the glycemic index that identifies foods that on one level seem healthy due to nutritional content but on another contain excess glucose to the extant that blood sugar diseases like diabetes would become likely. Much of his other advice is rock solid and well-known. His chapter on fiber clearly explains what it is, how it operates, and how it can reduce both body weight and breast cancer. Here he presents another handy chart that lists common fiber rich breakfast cereals by name. He finishes with erudite analyses of antioxidant capacities of selected fruits and vegetables, chemical estrogen avoidance strategies, and what he terms "road maps" as breast cancer prevention plans. The advice he writes of is not limited to women. If men were to follow the same advice they would benefit in ways not limited to avoiding breast cancer. In fact, Dr. Arnot's book can be seen as a general guide to good health that just happens to have a particular use toward breast cancer. Good advice, he notes, has more than one focus.

A really good and very detailed book.Way back in 1979 I bought the first books concerning foods, but over the years since then the science knowing and ideas have changed. Mostly I bought this book, even though it's a printing from way back in 1998 and I owe many newer books, because it has much writing concerning soy compared to in the newer books I looked in. But I must say that I'm astonished to find how good and informing it is concerning what's also in all the other kind of foods. And it's excellent with the containing of many good and very detailed tables where we among other learn that referring to antioxidant capacity then garlic is the best of the vegetables and strawberry the best of fruits.3 month ago my wife was trough a breast cancer surgery and after that the doctor told her not to eat soy, which she had not been eating much of before, only sometimes little tofu, even though she is born in Thailand. So I wanted to learn more about soy.And the book is also good in the much writing telling about the both good and bad sides of estrogen and also concerning cholesterol, and the connection between them. But I'm missing the information that there are these three estrogen compounds found in our body: estrone, estradiol and estriol, of which estriol are the good one. But I've only found this stated in a few books printed after 2002 so maybe it was not much known before then.But concerning the soy it in the book is explained why either too little or too much of soy can be bad. And many other things are explained, for example omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. And I will have a talk with the doctor concerning blood measuring and putting my wife on omega-3 pills instead of the pills (Femara) he ordered. She had the smallest possibly case of cancer, and he took the whole breast!And again. A really excellent book with many interesting details!

Dena Moes is a Hollywood born, Yale educated midwife with a BA in literature and an MS in Nursing. Dena and her family live in Chico California but leave town each summer to attend Rainbow Gatherings and Burning Man, and tour the West Coast festival circuit as the Moes Family Band. Not much insightful information or better information compared to searching online. Very basic stuff like public transportation which can be found online easily. Just lists of places and brief introductions. I was hoping to have good description like why the place and why is it the locals' favorite and etc.

This book was poorly written and useless. I would have sent it back as soon as I got it but I was too busy.

This is not a good reference guide for traveling in Australia, and is a rip off in every way. I should have read the sample pages before purchasing, and I would have realized this is more like a high school essay about the country. Sample: the section on "Getting Around Australia" informs you that you can travel by train, bus, plane or other options. That is all you learn about getting around Australia from this book. Another page (there are only 98 and most of them are 1/4 blank space) is devoted to informing you to bring sun block. Because, the sun. Seriously, previous reviewers must be family members or friends of the author. Look almost anywhere else for a better guide book.

This lovely travel guide will assist the reader with traveling through the diverse fauna and flaura, landscapes, cities and more aspects of this colorful country of Australia. Neatly written, and easy to follow.

This book is brilliant. I leaned so many effective things from this book. I was actually amazed by seeing how many important suggestions gathered in such a short book. Author did an excellent job. I'll surely recommend this book to my friends and family. Happy reading!!

This is a book that makes a lot of fundamental factual errors. For example, it identifies Neanderthals as being "a type of Homo sapiens," which like saying that gorillas are a type of baboon -- it's just flat out wrong. It also states that Homo sapiens have been around for a million years, which is not even close. The current estimate was 200,000 years, until the 2017 Moroccan find, which probably pushes the date back to 300,000 years. I guess it's a nice book if you don't read it, or if you don't mind colossal inaccuracies.

Five stars for the kids -- 5 yo girl / 2 yo boy. Strangely they pay full attention all the way to the boring end. Got me. I love the content. It's just a little dry for me, especially toward the end. It starts out with a brief introduction of human evolution. From there it covers homo sapiens history through the Bronze Age and beyond. Maybe. I can't remember. As soon as I fear the kids are getting bored with farming techniques and start to close it up, they ask me to keep going. Weird. But good. Yay!

I read this aloud to my eight-year-old boy, nine-year-old girl, and eleven-year-old girl as a component of human prehistory. For children to get the full use out of the book, to glean the full amount of information available in the pictures and text, they probably do need an adult to either read it to them or with them. The book led to great discussions about multiple subjects, such as how miserable life must have been before the discovery of fire, how such discoveries were likely made, etc. Great addition to our science library.

I got this for my 5 year old homeschooling son to complement our studies on pre-history and early man. Great introduction to the ancestors of man through beginning civilization. My son liked the pictures and they were very descriptive. He also liked the written text as well (I read the whole book to him over 2-3 evenings). We found this book interesting and engaging. Great addition to a secular education.

"Early People" follows human history from approximately four million years ago with the rise of Australopithicus to the beginning of the Iron Age 1,200 BC. Obviously, this is alot of history to cover in a 32 page book. "Early People" does a really good job of introducing young children to these topics. As with most books of this type, it relies heavily on illustrations. Kingfisher is the publisher of this book and they work with some of best children's book illustrators. These beautiful renderings should be able to pique the interest of any young child. Recommended.

I used this book as an introduction to early people for homeschool (kids age 7-11) and it was a wonderful springboard for many discussions. It would be excellent for a child to read on their own, or to use in a shared setting. The illustrations were engaging, I liked the clear and concise presentation for each time period and the flow from section to section felt like the right amount of info to not be overwhelming, but still get you through a large part of history quickly. Highly recommend!

Very good book for Elementary. Identifies the different early humans and identifies their tools, shelters, food, and lifestyles. Good illustrations.

First and foremost, this is a fun read. The entire series (21-books) never drags or repeats. Each story is unique and continues the plot line established in Book 1, "Death Becomes Her". While there are sections in all of the books that make you want to read several chapters so you can come to the conclusion of an action scene, there are lots of places you can put the book down and pick it up later.I grew up on Space Opera (Doc Smith and the Lensman series, and continued with Lee & Miller's Liaden series) and am also a huge fan of Military Sci-Fi. How wonderful to find a series with a bit of both. The emphasis in this series is on the story and the characters. And yes, the characters are unique and supportive of the main character. Throughout the series you see them grow and develop. Unlike some authors, Mr. Anderle doesn't develop a character just to kill him/her off in the next book. The reader has an opportunity to engage with the characters and follow them throughout this extensive series. Several of the characters have spin-off series (e.g., Nomad series, Bad Company series) so you can find out more about the character or follow their exploits that are related to but independent of the main story line.Book #1 is required to understand and appreciate the entire story line. What if Werewolves and Vampires actually exist? What if, just like real people, there are good, bad, and indifferent members of their society? What kind of interrelationships would develop? How about aliens? What would advanced technology bring into the mixture? This series has it all. Mr. Anderle sets up a universe with a social/economic/political setup similar to Earth - i.e., there are bullies and victims, 'politicians' who have their own interests foremost as well as those interested in serving others, etc. Now bring in a group of long-lived characters who want to help others, have the skills and talents to make a difference, and the aliens and technology to go boldly forth. Go Bethany Anne.

After reading the first 4 books in the Brownstone series, I wasn't expecting much from this series. I was glad to find that this series doesn't use our most offensive words in completely trivial situations. I just finished book 2 in this set and, while the language is colorful, it is completely authentic within the settings of the books. You DON'T expect people who risk their lives on a daily basis to speak as if they were in church. I'm fine with that.There is what might be considered an excessive amount of violence in this series but I doubt many of us were reading these books hoping to find dialogues about book clubs and baby showers. ;-) There is enough ho hum chatter to create pauses between scenes of massive carnage, but that's about it. In most cases, even the ho hum chatter is funny. If I want excruciating, mind numbing attention to detail, I'll read David Weber. A few words are left out here and there, but in today's world of self publishing I have to give Michael a B+.There are a LOT of books in this series and if they maintain the quality I've seen thus far, I will be a very satisfied reader for quite a while. :-)

I cant stop reading this book / series. I absolutely love it!!I finished the 1st book then went straight into the series.I have not been this entertained since Anne Rice or Laurell K. Hamilton.If you like a kick-ass supernatural hero...this is for you.

i must say i've never had more fun with a sassy set of fangs and a bunch of fur. Bethany is all and more than i could have ever wanted in character. what a life she has been given by a man who has been living millennia. and the posse she collects because of who she chooses to be and what she chooses to believe in are hilarious and scary.

Seriously. Really, REALLY well done. The first book sets up the characters and situation and just runs from there. Literally RUNS. Lots of action, fight sequences, explosions, and very creative swearing. The swearing is one of the best parts! Equal parts thriller, sci-fi, touching, and hilarious. I really can't recommend this enough.

I thought this style of story with this style of writing is great. Enough window dressing to tell a good story without bogging it down with extraneous bs. Sort of a literary First person shooter. Fun, cheap, entertainment; and there is nothing wrong with that.

The only thing that would make this boxset better would be more books! I love this series and was so happy to get this many books in one place and one price. It's awesome!

I love Bethany Ann...best "vampire" I've ever read about and normally I don't like these types of books. I'm so glad I found this series and I can't wait to read more!

This hymn book has a nice variety of songs from good old standard hymns to some popular contemporary songs many of us enjoy along side of the traditional hymns. Written in easy to sing key signatures.

Bought so I could learn new songs to play on the piano for church. Am using it to take piano lessons. Glad to have it.

This has a nice collection of popular classic hymns, and also some newer songs that have become popular worship songs. The print is clear and easy to read, and the binding is sturdy.

Exactly what I needed--loose leaf and standard size. And not bound, so I could select and remove pages for convenience for playing.

I thought this product comes in a pink hard cover!It was a dark red which was my unfavorite color.But inside of it was great.great songs.

This hymnal has such a wonderful variety of old hymns and newer praise songs that help lift one's heart to the King of kings.

This is a great hymnal with lots of lovely songs. The scriptures under each hymn is really nice, too.
