Beaufort B. Longest, Jr., is the M. Allen Pond Professor of Health Policy & Management in the Department of Health Policy & Management of the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). He is also the founding director of Pitt s Health Policy Institute. His research on health policy and management issues has generated substantial grant support and has led to the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles. His most recent article pertains to getting faculty in schools of public health more involved in policymaking. In addition, Longest has authored or coauthored 10 books and 30 chapters in other books.

A wonderful resource to truly help you understand the policymaking process in the health arena, as well as the world at large.
This book is actually by far the worst written book I've ever had to read for school. The subject is actually very interesting but the book seems to struggle conveying messages. There are so many filler words and sentences which causes the passages to be long and drawn out. Please just cut out all the filler for the 7th edition.
Very dry like most text books are, but very informative if the topic applies to you and your profession.
This was informative and I was happy with the content of the book. Definitely learned quite a lot from it
Worked for my masters program
This book has some good content but needs some polishing. This book is the assigned text for 1 of my Master's classes. In each chapter, you can probably read the 1st paragraph and then skip the next 2 - 3 pages. The book makes too many repetitive statements. The same point will be made over and over again in only slightly different wording. Needs a good editor to hack away at it and then the book could probably be reduced by at least 1/4.
I purchased this book for a class I am taking this semester. I purchased the text because it was required for the course. I have found the text to be very helpful and an easy read.
The first chapter put me to sleep. Once I got to the 2nd chapter, though, I couldn't put the book down. Great explanations of the process of legislation. I now am competent and interested in pursuing changing healthcare legislation for the better. Great explanations of medicare and medicaid.
