Man, talk about pressure. I was completely captivated from start to finish. This is one emotional rollercoaster with so much heartache and hope it really pulls those heartstrings and bring all of your emotions into play. Action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning dynamo that brings this bad boy roaring to life beautifully. I'm not sure there are words to describe my feelings for this treasure. In true form as I've come to expect I wasn't the least bit surprised when the tale has all the drama and uncertainty, along with danger and suspense, but somehow this storyline is so strong it holds your attention in ways that bring it close to home. Carol is an incredibly gifted author and I'm one of her loyal fans, but this little guy ruled me in the best of ways. The characters are lively, intelligent, complex and so realistic I felt I could just reach out and touch them. Their personalities are different and relatable with qualities that bring out such an amazing balance that play off one another amazingly. The scenes are so descriptive and detailed it really draws you in with a realism that has such depth you can almost taste it. All the trials and tribulations they encounter along with plenty unexpected plot twists that really pulls this bad boy together. I would totally recommend this remarkable read to anyone who loves historical romance. Carol totally nailed this bad boy. Johnnie and Elizabeth both share the loss of there parents to bandits it put a wedge on there friendship they both cared for each other but chose not to say anything to each other. Then Elizabeth leaves but later on she decides to marry another man her journey will be hard but it will bring her full circle with her past and the friend she left behind. Elizabeth makes it to meet her fiance only to have him die and leave her the ranch its her dream to run a ranch but it has brought a whole new set of troubles. When she is in trouble she decides to write to her friend and ask for his help Johnnie agrees to help the girl he once had feelings for but when he relizes just what kind of danger shes in he relizes his feelings may not be gone after all but it will take some convincing on his part there's allot of miss understanding between them and plenty of danger to deal with before they get what they both want. With a gready enemy thats willing to do anything to get Elizabeth's ranch. I always enjoy these books with there sweet romance and adventure there is conflict and a bad guy to deal with. My only issue was that around chapter 23 the book wasn't flowing as well but i still enjoyed reading it.
This story held my interest with mystery, clean romance, interesting characters. When Elizabeth travels West to meet her fiancee to begin a new life, she faces challenges from the beginning. However, she is determined to become a rancher, it has been her life long dream. When the troubles at her ranch start, she writes to her childhood friend Johnnie for advice. Johnnie arrives in Richbrook just in time to meet the man who is determined to take the land from Elizabeth. Together Elizabeth & Johnnie will fight to keep the ranch. Supporting characters in this book vow to help in any way possible. Downsides: Terrible proofreading. So many types, misused pronouns, extra words in sentences. After the first half of the book, even the name of the town where they lived was changed to the name of the town where Johnnie had been before he came to the ranch. When Levi said he was leaving to confront his brother, he was going to the wrong town. The extended epilogue wasn't any improvement, too many errors there also. You really need to be alert while reading this book to make sense of the story. I persevered even though I began to wonder if it was worth my time.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were rich and really developed! Elizabeth and her childhood friend Johnny were separated when a tragedy befell both their parents. With him raised in the west and her raised by family back east they still kept in touch through the yrs. when Elizabeth finally heads west to meet her fiancé at the ranch he purchases she is stunned to have him die within hrs of her arrival. When a man shows up threatening her, despite her great neighbors she feels she has to rely on the one person she knows will help her and be honest with her. So she writes to Johnny who comes to the rescue. With help from the neighbors and the town they fight to help her save what’s hers! This book had plenty of drama and action, good characters and bad! It needed a better proofreader but it was entertaining!
I enjoyed this book. I liked Johnnie how he remained a true friend to Elizabeth after their parents died. He helped her out when she needed him and wrote to her. Elizabeth was ok but she sometimes had high expectations for Johnnie. He wasn’t going to tell her about his uncle being a miserable drunk. He knew it would bother her and nothing could be done. Johnnie was a good guy and stood by his friend Levi as well as Marshal Springer. Both of them were unsure of their feelings and made mistakes. I really disliked George Meyers such an evil and unscrupulous man. He tried to get Elizabeth land by killing her fiancé Dwight. Who signed the land over to her. He tried to murder Johnnie twice and then tried to forge documents. There was a lot of suspense and action it kept me glued to the book.
Wow! There are some books that just grab you from the beginning and don’t let go. This is one of those books. It draws you into a vivid world filled with real people dealing with one issue after another. Elizabeth moves out west from Philadelphia and ends up owning property that a land developer wants and is willing to do anything necessary to get. Even with the support of her neighbors, hired hands and childhood “friendâ€, she seems to be fighting a losing battle. Emotions run hot, chaos persists and every time you think that everything will work out, there is another hurdle. Well developed, well written and well worth your time! Hunker down and enjoy this heart pounding experience!
