I saw that one reviewer said it was "dense" reading. I agree. But it is dense because it is so full of wonderful material. Take it slow. Read and "chew" it meditatively. Drink it in deeply. It gives the big picture on teaching the faith. It's is more than just teaching weekly CCD or RCIA class. It is about witnessing Christ to people who need to hear our message. It's easy to develop a limited (dare I say parochial?) view based on our own little world. This general directory gives a much bigger/broader picture. A world-wide, centuries-long, effort to share the "good news" of salvation. Thought provoking, challenging, just like our faith!

This is a great resource for those who want to know more about our Catholic faith. It's also a necessity when compiling lesson plans for religion class. It helps to pull everything together.

I read the General Directory for Catechesis as part of a seminar class. I had an instructor and fellow students to help me read the GDC and make sense of it. Reflecting the ideas from this book with the National Directory of Catechesis was critical to my understanding of the Church's international direction for religious education. The GDC tells you the Church's international plan for religious education, and the NDC applies it to the American situation. I recommend buying them together. That said I was pleased to learn the Church puts adult catechesis above all else and considers all other religious education activities to radiate from the primary emphasis on grown-ups!

Godel, Escher, Bach was an important book in my life, so I put Metamagical Themas on my to-read list. It took me a few years to get to it due to the intimidating length, but I finally had the chance to read it.I can't speak highly enough of Metamagical Themas. I loved the broad range of topics. The depth and thoughtfulness of the work of the work are incredible. I think about things I read in this book on a daily basis in both my work and personal life.

Hofstadter first wrote "Godel, Escher, and Bach", a magnum opus right out of the starting gate, followed up by the collection of essays in "The Mind's 'I'" that, while not surpassing "Godel, Escher & Bach", is regardless still a worthy second offering. And once again, Hofstadter's intellect & wit sparkle with "Metamagical Thema". If you enjoyed & were intrigued by Hofstadter's first two efforts, you will not be disappointed with his latest. I fell in love with the writer's first book, "Goedel, Escher, Bach, the Eternal Golden Braid" in the 1980's and wore out my first copies, and have been reading his books ever since. He never lets me down!

Those applications are significative because they are considered around musics, languages of words, strange attractors, recursive procedures. We are so in the first times of this science and the approach is interesting for how is developped the Turing Test.

I first read this book when I was a nerdy high school student. I didn't understand half of it at the time. Now I understand a bit more. Hofstadter's ideas are pretty complex, but he has an engaging style and unassuming air that make his ideas more accessible to the average person.

What a great book! So well researched, even a couple cases that I knew about there was information I didn’t know. Just like her first book, Unsolved Child Murders, this book was hard to put down and I hated to end it! Great job ladies and I look forward to the books that I hope you continue to write!

Thompson, also an author and who is the person who has Morbidity on the web. That site is used extensively by other podcasters for researching crime for their podcasts. I gave it one star because I was caught up in the story which turned out to be a SHORT STORY - I suppose all four parts would make a novel, but one has to pay for the separate parts just to get the entire story. If it had been advertised as a short story (130 pages), I wouldn't have minded, but I was just getting into it when it ended. I felt like I had been cheated.

The author introduces you to college-aged Cece, who is bound and determined to make a career for herself in country music. When her car essentially explodes on the side of the road, she's stranded and winds up trailing along with Holden and Thomas who also happen to be on their way to Nashville to make a go of becoming country music stars. Holden, nursing a wound from a not quite ex-girlfriend he left behind is gruff toward Cece, but soon we see the attraction between them build even as they resist it.I loved this book. I flew through it in one day. It seemed a little short, so I'm guessing it's closer to novella length, especially since there are around 9 installments. The characters were believable and the dialogue and writing so strong. I found myself smiling and laughing at parts and when the book ended I was SO bummed!! I absolutely loved it and recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance, NA, or even YA fans. The only downside to this book at all is simply the fact that there are so many installments and so to read them all you have to shell out $20+. For those on a budget this might be a problem.I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Cece Mackenzie has taken off with her dog in her grandma’s old car for Nashville to pursue her dream of becoming a country singer. Too bad that the car breaks down. And catches on fire. And her purse and all of her belongings are lost when it blows up. Thank god two cute guys stop to help her and offer her a ride. Oh wait…one of them is kind of a jerk. Will she ever get to Nashville?“I hear the car explode even as I’m still running flat out. I feel the heat on the backs of my arms. Hank Junior yelps, and we run faster. I trip and roll on the rough surface pavement, my guitar case skittering ahead of me, Hank Junior’s leash getting tangled between my legs.I lie there for a moment, staring up at the blue Tennessee sky, trying to decide if I’m okay. In the next instant, I realize the flouncy cotton skirt Mama made me as a going away present is strangling my waist, and Hank Junior’s head is splayed across my belly, his leash wrapped tight around my left leg.”When Holden meets Cece he thinks she may as well be named “Calamity Cece” in his mind. She’s a curse for Thomas and Holden who are moving to Nashville for their career. This first part in the serial is a cute introduction to the characters and reminds me of the “Nashville” TV series. All of these talented people just want to catch their big break. I enjoyed the beginning and definitely want to read more about these characters.I know this is a short but sweet beginning and will read the next part in this series to find out if this trio has what it takes to make it in Nashville. I’m crossing my fingers that they will get themselves a record contract and be on their way!

Nashville - Part One - Ready to ReachWhat a well written novella this is! You are immediately drawn into the characters who are 3 dimensional and very realistic. So many romance novels make the good guy all good and the heroine so sweet you want to throw up, but these characters are normal people who could be your next door neighbors (well, if you lived in Georgia or Alabama :) ). I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting it was that captivating.It may not be important to everyone, but having been an English major in college, spelling, punctuation and grammar are all too important to me and I've read so many books lately that have atrocious spelling and even worse grammar! This one is perfect in those respects and I respect the author for making sure it was so before publishing it.I'm not a particular fan of romance (although I had my day), but I so thoroughly enjoyed this book on so many levels that I just HAD to comment on it.

This was a one sitting kind of read. It's short, but also good. I was looking for something sweet and interesting, and this fit the bill.Like I said, even though I am totally not into country music at all, the feelings of chasing your dreams are universal. I like the friendship that's building between the three main characters, as well as the hint of attraction that's brewing between two of them.Then the logical part of me steps in when my Kindle asks me if I want to download the next installment for $2.99. I am in no way opposed to paying for e-books, but considering the length of Part One, I'm not so sure that is a good value for my reading dollar.I'd like to continue on with this story, but considering that there are good quality full length novels to be had at the same price point or slightly higher, I'd rather save my money for them. Or wait until this comes out in a box set so I can buy it all at once. It appears as though there are 5 Parts here and I'm not keen on spending $12 to find out how it ends.

This book gave me the chills. To think at one point I thought pornography was liberating was also the same point in life I was extremely depressed had no self respect all because I had a distorted perverse view on what sex was. I’m thankful to come across this amazing book. Andrea Dworkin books saves lives

Maybe it is just me, but this is a little difficult to follow. I do love the content. The author does a thorough job at looking at how society caters to pronography. I love this perspective!

This is a great book. While not easy to read (in the sense that it forces one to reflect and think about what she is saying), it is one of those essential readings for anyone who really wants to understand much of the dynamics that happens in society between men, women and the powers that be. Andrea Dworking is one of those special people,who occupies that category of 'prophet of our times', presenting aspects of life in which, as human beings, we must look at, examine and do much personal reflection if we, as men and women, are interested growth and becoming aware, compassionate human beings in relation to each other. I am heartened that there are people, men and women, like herself in this world.

This was the straw feminist text in my college years. Before I even knew about the big feminists of the movement, I knew about Andrea Dworkin. She was the feminist that didn't believe that sexual intercourse was anything but violence, that tried to shut down the porn industry through civil courts, that wrote extensively about the harmful effects of pornography in a way that could be compared to previous moral crusades against comic books, rock & roll and video games. She wanted to remove Playboy from the 7/11 and join with Ed Meese in a puritanical crusade.When I said that I wasn't feminist, I was thinking about Andrea Dworkin. When I embraced Camille Paglia I felt like I was pushing away Dworkin. When I finally came around to embrace feminism as a movement, I would say that it is a big tent and that you didn't have to agree with all feminists while thinking of Andrea Dworkin. Andrea Dworkin wanted to get rid of pornography and that was enough to make me dismiss her.Now with the metoo movement and more discussions of sexual harassment and sexual assault as part of the patriarchy, I have finally come to respect Dworkin as a feminist and a social critic. Do I agree with everything in this book? No. I rather enjoy the media that she is against. There are parts where I am thinking notallmen and rather annoyed that this would be my reaction.But she's not completely wrong. The sexual revolution might have been a positive step but it did not liberate men and women from the so-called traditional gender roles. In fact, it made things worse since the exploitation became more widespread. Andrea Dworkin depicts gender roles as violent and disturbing where men are conditioned from birth to take whatever they want even as women are conditioned to please men (remember a few years ago when an eight year old boy was punished for kissing girls and adults went on and on about how it was his right and how dare the school system interfere? Yeah, it's like that). In this context, pornography is the most crass manifestation of male power and dominance. Even homosexuality becomes skewed through the paradigm of male power as gay porn often carries out the same power dynamics and prison rape is a joke that our culture has only recently decided is maybe not funny.One of the most important chapters is on the Marquis de Sade and the eagerness of his biographers to give him a free pass. Even though he abused and hurt many women, the biographers have traditionally dismissed his activities as "maybe a little too much" and made the women disappear from the histories entirely. All of the excuses to deny rape victims their due are on display as the great man that is the Marquis de Sade is praised while his victims are either hysterical, lying or outright evil. Given recent news about Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, etc., etc. and their armies of enablers, it's really hard to read the excuses that biographers made for a man long dead without thinking about how much this has become a tradition.This is a challenging and eloquent book. It may not change your mind about pornography, but it will make you think and hopefully recognize the mechanisms of rape culture and misogyny within the modern world.

Andrea Dworkin did a lot of ground breaking research regarding this book. She also talked about how publishers refused to even print it. Finally someone did, and i'm grateful.There were a few ladies in the porn business back then, that had a totally different outlook than Andrea. They were out there talking about "liberation" and freedom to do as they wish for money. But Andrea is the voice that stayed in the background:"Yep.. but at a cost for all of us.."Like someone else posted, my eyes were clearly opened at the veneration of the Marquis De Sade. After seeing Andrea's research, i also looked up Giacomo Casanova, Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt, etc. How Sade and Casanova's brutality, incest, pedophilia, murder of prostitutes, etc. was basically overlooked. And that Flynt, and Hefner were called the pioneers of the Women's Movement.But what was really interesting was the male and female psychologists/psychiatrist that perpetuated and firmly believed the myth: "If a woman is hurt, beaten, abused, maimed during sex.. It actually excites her The more a man hurts her, the more she wants it." I bet the wives back in those days must have had a stunt-double and medic handy in the bedroom..Pornography gives the impression that no matter how a woman is abused by a male, a gang of males or a bunch of mean girls - she wants it, begs for it, needs it, and can't do without it. Even though, the viewer is fully aware that it's an actress/prostitute/stripper just "doing her job" to pay the bills..The male imagination is quite basic. They see a picture or video of a naked actress/stripper performing for the camera - they automatically assume women in general have the same mentality of the stripper/prostitute. According to their basic perception, we ALL want it, can't get enough of it, gotta have it, and actually provoke the male into using his brute force on her against his will. Also, known as the blame-game. And in the male mind, yep, she's to blame.Compare it to your average tRump supporter, facist, racist, misogynist, etc. If the industry seeks out and finds a willing volunteer to fit the stereotype and "do a spread" for the cameras? (which there are plenty) Those followers will point to those glossy pages or video stash, and excitedly say: "You see? They won't openly admit, but this is how they ALL are." Keep convincing a certain society with a lie, repeatedly, and soon they'll believe it.Andrea is no longer alive today.. But if she was, she'll see that her fight was in vain. Pornography is pretty much mainstream. She would be out-numbered by the PR people, who work diligently to push their "product". With the help of women and men who believe that pornography is freedom of expression, "a fun industry" art, "imagination with no borders", "a great and safe place to work", "You can choose your own hours", a "great way to make a living", a part time job, full time job, "challenging, but rewarding" "easy money".. These are phrases i found in my research regarding the mentality of models, actresses/actors today's in the industry. Some of these folks aren't even big names, and are using these "catch phrases" to lure naive individuals in, like it's a vocational college.None of them really want to talk about the drugs, mental problems, HIV, AIDs, abuse, addiction, and other stuff that goes with the territory. Something the PR people of the industry certainly will suppress, or down play to "Sell that product"..Andrea's work was not in vain. It's now interesting to see pornography from both sides of the coin.
